When God Is The Scapegoat

In times of tragedy, hardship, or suffering, many people find themselves looking for someone or something to blame. In the midst of these difficult moments, it can feel comforting to attribute the pain to God, especially when there seems to be no other logical explanation. However, this perspective is rooted in misunderstanding the true nature of God and the reality of the spiritual battle at play in our world. The truth is, God is not the cause of our suffering—Satan, the ruler of this world, is behind many of the hardships we face.
Jeremiah 29:11 gives us a clear picture of God’s heart towards His children: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” God’s plan for our lives is filled with hope, peace, and goodness. His plans are never meant to harm us; they are designed to lead us to prosperity and abundant life. In contrast, when we face difficulties or tragedy, it’s not because God has willed them, but because we are living in a fallen world where sin and evil abound.
In John 10:10, Jesus makes it clear: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Satan's purpose is to steal, harm, and bring destruction. He is the true enemy who orchestrates evil and suffering on this earth. It’s important to recognize that Satan, not God, is responsible for the tragedies that occur in the world—whether it’s the loss of a loved one, illness, or accidents that seem senseless.
Sadly, when people don’t understand the true enemy, they often blame God. It’s a human tendency to seek someone to blame when things go wrong, and it can feel easier to place the blame on God rather than face the reality that evil forces are at work in the world. But God’s character is perfect, and He is always good. His love for us is unwavering, and His desire is for us to experience life, peace, and joy.
When accidents happen or unexplained tragedies strike, it’s important to remember that God is not the author of those events. He does not cause pain or suffering. His character is rooted in goodness and love, and He desires nothing more than to restore and heal us. In fact, He sent Jesus to show us just how deeply He cares for us and to provide a way for us to experience eternal life and abundant life here on earth.
The next time you find yourself in the midst of tragedy or hardship, remember that God is not the scapegoat. He doesn't cause pain, nor does he punish. Instead, look to Him for comfort, healing, and strength, knowing that His plans for you are good, and that He is always working to bring you back to a place of wholeness. His character is good, His plans are full of hope, and His desire is for you to walk in the fullness of life He has promised. ~Kimberly - Minister @ God's Healing Power Radio Ministry.
