After ministering personally to people for over 26 years, I would say that the #1 phrase I hear Christians say to me is this.... "Well, I just don't believe that."
What are they referring to?
They are referring to a scripture I gave them in order to help them with their problem. Now, these are Christians, mind you. People of faith who read their Bibles. Or do they? And if they do, what good is it doing them if they don't believe what God is saying to them??
Let me give you some examples...
Me: This scripture says, "By the stripes of Jesus you HAVE been healed." It says this in 1 Peter 2: 24. Your arthritis and pain was taken for you at the cross and Peter is looking back at the cross telling us that healing was already provided, which means now we only have to receive what Jesus died to give us.
Them: Well, I just don't believe that. This scripture is only for spiritual healing. (Woman walks away, taking her arthritis and pain with her, proudly telling me that her church is praying for her to be healed !)
Me: You need to speak to your mountains, Jesus tells us. Mark 11:22-25 is a wonderful instruction from the Lord to SPEAK... use our voices, as He did, to speak to our problems to fall into the sea. He cursed the fig tree with words. With His faith filled words.
Them: Well, I just don't believe that. How can you speak to a problem to just go away??? That doesn't make sense.
Me: The Bible says that God heals all of our diseases. Psalm 103:3 tells us this.
Them: Well, I just don't believe that. How come my friend died of cancer then?? ( And then I proceeded to tell her the many, many roadblocks to healing...) And I could go on and on with the examples I have heard over the years.
So here's my point. God gave us specific instructions. He gave us specific promises. We have a whole book that gives us guidance on every problem we could ever face. Yet well-meaning Christians are making up THEIR OWN GOSPEL and implementing it, rather than taking God's Word and implementing it! People have become their own God, based on the experiences around them.
This is why PRAYERS DO NOT GET ANSWERED. Our own gospel has no power. But God's Word does have ALL the power...
"God's word is alive and powerful! It is sharper than any double-edged sword. His word can cut through our spirits and souls and through our joints and marrow, until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our hearts." - Hebrews 4:12 "My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen to my words. Never let them get away from you. Remember them and keep them in your heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh." - Proverbs 4:20-23
Christians!! Dust off your Bible and start delving into all of His promises! Read them... study them...speak them... believe them. When God hears you come into agreement with His Word rather than with your own words, then He has something to work with! He is going to honor your faith...not your doubts, in His willingness and ability to help you.
I will leave you with these two very sobering and eye-opening scriptures and I pray that you would stop looking at the circumstances around you, stop making up your own Gospel, and FOCUS on what God says... (This is a good word of ALL of us!!)

"...'As I live,' says the LORD, 'just as you have spoken in My hearing, so I will surely do to you...'" - Numbers 14:28
