One of my favorite Psalms and the one that I have memorized and declare over my family daily is Psalm 91. It is so important to pray God’s Word. It’s not enough to have a Bible in your possession. It’s not enough to leave it open on your nightstand or your coffee table. And it’s not enough just to merely read the words on the pages. The Word of God has to become part of you. You must take all of the instructions and promises to heart, believe the words that God is speaking, and then you must agree with God by declaring them with your mouth.
“For the word of God is living and operative, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and penetrating to the division of soul and spirit, both of joints and marrow, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12
The two-edged sword actually translates to a “two-mouthed sword”. One edge of the sword represents God speaking His Word and the other edge represents the believer speaking His Word.
Psalm 91 is a very special set of verses. It’s the “Psalm of Protection” and if we examine it closely, we can see how vital it is that we memorize this Psalm and use it as a prayer to our Father. We are speaking God’s Word back to Him, in agreement.
We need to be mindful that God’s promises come with conditions. What God is speaking to us in this Psalm will be of no benefit if we are not “dwelling” with God. This means a deep, personal relationship with Him…not just a casual one on Sundays.
There are over 7000 promises in the Word of God. Let’s start digging into the Word and receive all that He has to give us! Confess the following on a daily basis…
“I dwell in the secret place of the Most High so I abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust." Surely He shall deliver me from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover me with His feathers, and under His wings I shall take refuge; His truth shall be my shield and buckler. I shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at my side, and ten thousand at my right hand; but it shall not come near me. Only with my eyes shall I look, and see the reward of the wicked. Because I have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, my dwelling place, no evil shall befall me, nor shall any plague come near my dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over me, to keep me in all my ways. They shall bear me up in their hands, lest I dash my foot against a stone. I shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent I shall trample under foot. Because I have set my love upon Him, therefore He will deliver me; He will set me on high, because I have known His name. I shall call upon Him, and He will answer me; He will be with me in trouble; He will deliver me and honor me. With long life He will satisfy me, and show me His salvation.” – Psalm 91 in 1st person
