The
first of each year always brings a sense of renewal and the gift of
starting over again. It's during this time that I start cleaning out
closets and re-arranging furniture so that I can get a visual of some
kind of change. In looking through some of the clutter in my closets, I
came across many projects that were abandoned for one reason or
another. I used to paint watercolor paintings and was actually pretty
good at it, and there were at least 5 paintings I found that needed
work. Next to my piano that I rarely play any more, were stacks of new
sheet music that have not yet been mastered. In my crafts closet I
found blankets half-crocheted, cross-stitch samplers almost ready for
hanging, but not quite. I found sewing projects for which I had all the
materials but never started. And upstairs in my family room is a cute
little ottoman that needs to be recovered and I just haven't mustered
up the "oomph" to get it done. My list could go on and on with all my
unfinished business....
I don't normally see myself as a person
who doesn't follow through with things. I would say that the majority
of my tasks are completed to fruition. But there are some that got
shoved to the back burner in order to take care of higher priorities at
the time. I guess you could say, "That's Life!"
Lately I have
felt a sense of spinning my wheels and as I have uncovered all of the
unfinished business in my life, perhaps this is what has been keeping
my feet stuck in the mud and preventing me from moving forward at the
pace that I have wished for. My brain wants to move forward but it's
like there is someone tugging at the back of my shirt, holding me back.
I think that "someone" is the pile of unfinished business...
So
in order to move forward, I need to go in reverse for awhile and tick
off all those things on my list that need completion. Settling things
in the past can clear out the clog in the hose that is keeping the
steady flow of living water running through our lives that produces the
fruit we need in order to live strong and prosper...
I encourage
all of you today to find the "unfinished business" in your
life...whether it's clutter in your closet, unsent letters, fix-it
projects or perhaps a sour relationship that needs mending. Take care
of what's left undone so that the blessings will soon start to flow
again in your life...
