Last summer, I woke up on the morning that we were supposed to be leaving for a short vacation, feeling very weak and sick. I could barely move a muscle and it was if all of the energy had drained from my body and I was paralyzed. I clumsily made it to my bathroom floor and opened my bible and started praying. I was bound and determined that this attack from the enemy was not going to hinder our plans and so I made up my mind that I was going to go on this vacation anyway and believe God to restore my energy and remove the pain.

We had a 5 hour drive to our destination and when I got to the resort, my energy had been restored and I felt much better! The next several days we swam and played tennis, ate at some nice restaurants, walked through the town, and had a really enjoyable time. I was glad I didn't cancel my plans and allow the enemy to win that battle!

And what was satan saying the whole time I was enjoying myself with my family? "CURSES...FOILED AGAIN!"

How did I defeat his plans which were meant for my misery? I defeated him by renewing my mind to the Word of God, resisting satan in spiritual warfare, and speaking God's Word concerning the promises of healing. What the enemy meant for my harm, God turned around for my good...

The old beast of evil and his band of thugs will try over and over and over again to force us to retreat and accept his lies. They want carte blanche access to our lives and they will fight us tooth and nail and throw everything at us, including the kitchen sink! This is a wrestling match that we are in. Ephesians 6:12 talks about "wrestling against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness in heavenly places." In the Greek the word "wrestle" actually means “hand-to-hand combat”!! This tells us how serious our battles are!

While we won't actually be using a physical sword to chop off the heads of satan and his band of warriors, we do have access to some very powerful weapons. When Jesus was alone in the wilderness and satan came against him three times, he finally had to flee because Jesus quoted the Word of God....the most powerful resource that we have available to us for the defeat of the demonic.

Hebrews 4:12 - "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Our adversary is real. There are forces of evil plotting against our God-given plans to be a light to others in this world. Once one demon is defeated there are always five more around the next bend, lying in wait for a chance to throw us off our course. We need to follow the example of our Lord Jesus Christ who told satan, "It is written!" .... and then praise God when the forces of evil reply, "CURSES...FOILED AGAIN!"
